The Chinese and Japanese rooms at the V&A museum, guided tour followed by drinks

November 11, 2022 @ 18:30 - 20:30

The Chinese and Japanese rooms at the V&A museum, guided tour followed by drinks
Join us for an exclusive, fun evening of art, culture and networking! The V&A museum has one of the finest collections of Chinese and Japanese works of art to be found outside Asia. During our tour Anne Haworth, art historian and lecturer at the V&A, British Museum, SOAS, Sotheby’s Institute and Regents University in London, will guide us through these rooms. We will view fine textiles, rare ceramics and exquisite lacquer ware which have some surprising connections to medicine. Tea-drinking originated in ancient China, where it was celebrated for its beneficial effects on health, before flourishing in Japanese culture as the elegant tea ceremony. Jade in ancient China was believed to confer immortality. Radiant textile dyes were sold by both merchants and apothecaries and refined lacquer wares were not only considered to be beautiful but also anti-bacterial.
Spaces are limited and will be given on a first come first served basis, so please reserve your space asap to avoid disappointment.
