Paediatricians

Paediatricians in the UK are highly qualified consultants who specialise in different aspects of child health and development.
Although you may choose to have a paediatrician perform health checks, it is standard practice in the UK to have routine check-ups and consultations done by your family GP.

Patients may be referred to the paediatrician/ hospital either by a GP or a consultant. A general consultant paediatrician may refer your child to a more specialised paediatrician for further diagnosis and treatment. Many paediatricians will also see patients directly through the private healthcare system. However, the cost of the consultation will usually only be covered by British insurers if you have been referred by a GP. You will also need to ensure that the recommended specialist is included in the list of consultants covered by your insurance company.
