Special needs

Children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) all have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn comparing to most children and young people of the same age. These children and young people may need extra or different help to others.

If you think your child has SEND, you should talk to your child’s early education setting, school or other provider. Your child’s difficulties must be assessed so that the right support can be provided. Getting advice and further assessment from someone like an educational psychologist, a specialist teacher or a health professional it is very important.

There is an information, advice and support service in every local authority area. This service will be able to provide information, advice and support for you, and your children, about SEN, disability, health and social care.
