The East End consists of many small and quite distinct neighbourhoods and it has been well known as an area of poverty, immigration, infamous murders (e.g. Jack the Ripper). The area is also famous for its markets like Petticoat Lane, Spitalfields and Brick Lane. Did you know that London has the highest concentration of markets of any city in the world? We will wander through the markets, go through the surrounding areas, and will tell you the stories and reasons that explain why the area came to be regarded as the dark heart of London, riddled with crime, poverty and deprivation.
