This evening of opera showcases the versatility of RCM’s singers as they perform an intoxicating trio of works that celebrate the beauty of the French language. \nThe programme begins with Les Illuminations\, a contemplative song cycle by RCM alumnus Benjamin Britten. Based on the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud\, these songs feature vivid imagery and surrealistic themes\, beautifully set to Britten’s expressive music. \nNext\, the audience will be treated to a selection of rarely performed songs from Kurt Weill’s Marie Galante\, which are part of his early work and demonstrate his beguiling musical style. \nThe evening culminates with Maurice Ravel’s L’heure espagnole\, a comédie musicale.
