Once you have made the decision to move overseas, you can ensure the transition is as seamless as possible by doing even a little preparation.
If you are still in the throws of determining your shipping requirements, we have a list of several companies who have been recommended by our members. It is best to use an international removal company who is a member of International Federation of Furniture Removers (FIDI) or the Overseas Moving Network International (OMNI) with experience in Britain.
Costs vary significantly so it is advisable to obtain at least three different quotes. Most companies will pack your belongings and provide packing boxes and special containers but make sure to check these details while you are reviewing the quotations. If you are flexible about the shipping date you can also find significant savings by grouping your shipment with another. Make sure to get everything in writing, including the date of delivery!
While it is not necessary to have found accommodation prior to the move, it is advisable. For those with less time, there are plenty of very nice short term serviced flats which can be used in the interim - either before you find permanent accommodation or even while you are waiting for your shipment to arrive. Browse through our list of serviced apartments on the following pages to get you started.
We provide recommended resources to our members. If you are not logged on as a member you only receive a list of the FOCUS sponsors.
No matter how good the movers are, it is necessary to insure your belongings with a well established insurance company. Do not insure it with the shipping company if they have their own insurers as damages are often hard to recover if there is a claim.
